My opinion: I am a HUGE fan of THUNDERCATS - the original as well as the 2011 version. This... whatever it was... just terrible. It did nothing for the property and was an insult to the fans. Again, just my opinion.

I remember it well. Even my dad liked it. Ahead of it's time and well done. Released 3 years before "The Simpsons" in that odd space where it was a little over the heads of small kids... and adults of the time wouldn't give cartoons a chance. One of the forgotten innovators in a world of forgotten copycats.

I like how he's going after the toxic aspects of fandom that ruin things for everyone.

He keeps saying "minority" like it's a real thing.

Thundercats Roar was so much fun and was a giant love letter to the original series.

I wanted to dislike Roar but my stepson was into it and I watched it with him and by the end didn't mind it for what it was.

Thundercats Ho was worse than both the Kevin Smith Masters of the Universe and the live action Cowboy Bebop. It's like saying that Transformers: Rescue Bots was a better series because it lasted for a longer time. I do appreciate seeing Dan Larsen go full Michael French. Well played, Sir.

I think it just hit at "the wrong time". I'll admit, the art style threw me off it, but I was willing to give it a chance. Saw a few clips once it came out, but with the clips I saw, it was just written..."Too dumb." Like, why would The Lord Of the Thundercats put the Sword of Omens in a catapult that he's just seen launches rubbish away?! Or the fight against Mumm Raa too...why just repeat Thunder to get a bigger sword that YOU KNOW you can't hold...*angry Internet noises* It didn't grab my attention, and let's face it, 2020 was a dumpster fire for entertainment. The backlash was definitely an overreaction. I can remember watching a video before it came out where the only criticism was "It looks dumb and childish" without any further discussion or facts. Come on, we can do better if we're slagging something off, surely? I initially thought it was gonna be some sort of "parody" show. Perhaps if I hadn't seen it 'framed' that way? Or if it wasn't labelled 'Thundercats'....Who knows?

Sad to see that this channels fans are such angry children acting personally attacked over a strangers opinion of a children's show. Like the original Thundercats is some bastion of high art and creativity. Ya'll are literally just proving Dan to be 100% right. I don't care how bad the show is, nothing warrants this kind of response. Anyone old enough to care about Thundercats is old enough to be mature about this. Reactions like this just kill franchises and ensure you NEVER get the version you might want.

It seemed like Warner Brothers and Cartoon Network had way too many wars with fans instead hiring someone to find a way to bring skeptical fans on board. Instead of a charm offense for Thunder Cats Roar it was wage a battle that only reinforced negative feelings.

You mean a cartoon that made the unforgivable sin of SUCKING, and being an insult to everything that came before it.

I didn't like Roar because I felt it was too simplistic and the art style was strange and I didn't like it. Steven Universe was one of my favorite shows, and I loved the animation and art style. If people like Roar, let them have it.

I gave this video a like - but only because Dan has a right to attempt to defend the indefensible. I wish him well.

Yeah, Roar was bad. The reboot in 2011 was mixed as the animation was ok but the story was kinda awful. OG is still the best. Some things just don't need a reboot. TTG was horrible. Also Gravity Falls was amazing and should not be compared to the other calart shows. GF is in a league all its own.

The big problem comparing Roar with the reboots of TMNT or Transformers is that those brands have been fairly consistent in output. There's this unspoken fear that, especially after a long hiatus, the new jokey take becomes the de facto version in the public eye; devaluing, or even erasing, previous entries. And it's not an unfounded fear either. Adult Swim's parody reboots pretty much supplanted the original Space Ghost and Birdman. Both Transformers and the Turtles even had their own simplified "CalArts" (for lack of a better word) entries, and they too came with backlash. Those takes survived better because their franchises have been more consistently active. Transformers Animated shared the spotlight with the Bay films, and later some well regarded games. Rise of the TMNT coexisted with the IDW comics, and countless video game and app appearances harking back to older versions. Also, neither of those entries were following up a beloved entry, canceled too soon, with an active fanbase pushing for a comeback like both Teen Titans and Thundercats had.

1. The writing on Exo-Squad was SO MUCH BETTER than anyone had any right to expect of a toy tie-in animated series. Seriously, that show doesn't get nearly enough love for how well it was written. 2. Macross > Robotech, and it can be proven mathematically. 3. I wouldn't expect anything Robotech until eight weeks AFTER the entropy death of the universe.

I was the misfit kid who liked Tranzor Z instead of Voltron. It was like the gritty, underground blackmetal version of 80s kids cartoons. Will never forget watching my dad's friends get loaded while watching the "chest fire" part. "Man... did her boobs just shoot off?" "Yea dude... WHOA!" "Is this stuff laced?"

This video is pretty dumb. You make the point at the end that people reboot franchises and they fail - they did here and it failed because people disliked it. So what's your point again? People disliked it for "the wrong reasons" ?

I wasn't much of a power rangers fan, but Mystic knights was the best! Fantasy with magic and medieval atmosphere, I couldn't have wished for nothing more as a kid ❤

This episode is weird. thundercats roar attacked fans, and this episode is passive aggressive attacking fans. thundercats roar failed not because it was criticized, thundercats failed because it failed to achieve its stated goal which was to bring in a new audience. it flopped because it didn't connect with the new audience, and then alienated the original audience. this video is a bad take.

I aint gonna lie, some of those animated sequences from Thundercats Roar look pretty great, but I'm a fan of that stuff

I'm just amazed how animation has devolved and gotten uglier over the years. Thundercats Roar was just a symptom of a horrible trend.

I do have to say that I am not a fan of that rounded, bubble-shaped character design, but I know it's not for me and I don't lose any sleep over it. Nor am I a fan of remaking old, non-comedy cartoons into goofy comedy versions, but again, I know I'm not the target audience and I don't lose any sleep over it... I just don't watch it and carry on with my life. I've got the original _ThunderCats_ series on DVD (found boxed sets of every season cheap as Hell several years ago) and I thought the 2011 version was fantastic and had a lot of promise, and was really sad when it just ended suddenly. I've always thought that _ThunderCats_ was legitimately interesting, and the mixture of Science-Fiction and classic mythology on a blasted, fantastical far future era "Third Earth" _(whenever_ that time-frame was) had a whole lot of potential for genuinely interesting stories; as I got older, it made me think of something out of Clark Ashton Smith and the Dying Earth genre, and a serious remake could be made really, _really_ interesting by playing into a full CAS/Lovecraft/Jack Vance vibe. I will always remember the episode where _Excalibur_ and the _Sword of Omens_ fly up into the air and fight each other directly, and Excalibur pierces the Eye of Thundera and kills the Sword of Omens! (Because it's _freaking Excalibur.)_ I was a huge _ThunderCats_ fan back in the '80s, but wasn't a fan of the new _Roar_ show and thought it looked dumb and wasn't for me... so I just _didn't watch it and moved on with my life._ What I _didn't_ do was go on the Internet to _rant about how much I hated a new cartoon designed for little kids._

Never seen the show so no idea how it is, but I know there's literally no chance it can be as bad and insulting to a brand as Velma is.

Wait, you liked that steaming pile of garbage. Roar was an abomination from start to finish, and yes Steven universe animation is bad and lazy. The best way to describe it is babies first flash animation. Show was trash that's all there is to it. Animation sucked, humor wasn't funny, the only good part of the show is that it ended.

I'm just gonna say if it was so great, it would still be running. Teen Titans Go is on season 8 with almost 400 episodes and met with much the same criticisms early on.

I can't wait for the Secret Galaxy reboot where Dan is played by a hobo in a horse mask that cracks jokes about wild oats while farting the ABCs. If anyone complains, they weren't a real Secret Galaxy fan anyway.

I just hated that this was the 3rd reboot trying to copy TTG, companies think they can catch lightning in bottle more then once its insane.Keep in mind by this time PPG and Ben 10 were also rebooted into TTG clones and they didnt do so well, wll maybe ben but PPG didnt

All I remember about it is that I thought it looked kind of stupid and had no interest. Definitely wasn't gonna take to the internet to rant and rave about how my childhood was ruined, cause the original wasn't that great either. Like I remember liking it as a kid, but honestly it was fairly repetitive. I tried watching the anime remake but it kind of took itself way to seriously, though I did like that the mutants weren't just generic badguys. Would be cool if we could get a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2021) or a She-Ra and the Princesses of Power style remake where it's serious at times and comedic at times. Definitely don't want a live action remake, I'm so sick of live action remakes.

NGL I really don't like the passive aggressive nature of this video. I come to this channel to get retrospectives on nostalgic and modern series, not seeing you lash out 5 years too late on fans that were angry about a show they long forgotten about.

So what exactly did the “haters” that Dan is vehemently railing against here supposedly do, other than voice an opinion that Roar was clearly terrible? Were there threats of violence or something? Other than the show’s abrupt cancellation, was there some type of tragedy that occurred? Dan really believes the studio has declared the IP as “toxic” because the fans rejected one terrible show? If so, I’ll gladly take the rights to T-cats off their hands for them!
